What is a vasectomy?

Vasectomy is a surgical male sterilization procedure for men and couples wishing to obtain permanent contraception. It involves cutting or ligating the vas deferens, preventing the transport of sperm.

Benefits

Why choose a vasectomy under local anaesthetic?

Why choose a vasectomy under local anaesthetic?

✔ S peed of intervention: short procedure (often less than 30 minutes).

Painless during the procedure: local anesthesia means no pain during the procedure

Definitive: permanent, highly reliable method of contraception

Rapid recovery: return home the same day, resume light activities quickly

Fewer side effects than with hormonal methods or the risks associated with general anesthesia

How it works

How is a vasectomy performed under local anaesthetic?

1️⃣ Pre-operative consultation to assess and explain the procedure, check health status (history, contraindications, consent).

2️⃣ On the day of surgery, comfortable installation in a clinic or surgical practice. Cleaning, local antisepsis.

3️⃣ Injection of local anesthetic into the scrotum to numb the area.

4️⃣ Incision or small opening in the scrotum to access the vas deferens.

5️⃣ Section, ligation or cauterization of the vas deferens. Sometimes bilateral exposure is performed, depending on the technique.

6️⃣ Incision closure, immediate post-operative monitoring.

📌 Procedure time: approx. 20-30 minutes

📌 Hospitalization: outpatient (you go home the same day)
